Raleigh, North Carolina

If you are considering moving to Raleigh, North Carolina you will instantly receive a warm welcome. You can also be sure that your decision will prove to have been well made in this prosperous and progressive community with a life style second to none. Situated in the Research Triangle region of North Carolina, Raleigh rates among the nation’s best when it comes to choosing a place to live, start a business and raise a family who can also benefit from a world-class education available locally.

Another good reason to consider moving to Raleigh is that business is booming thanks to good growth in home-developed enterprises and with a string of new companies looking to move into the area too. The local workforce is well supplied by virtue of the annual graduation from the area’s colleges and universities and unemployment in the area is low. Still up there with the nation’s best economies, Raleigh and the Research Triangle Park (one of the leading high-technology centers in the country) have managed to ride the storm of the nation’s economic slowdown almost seamlessly. Several information technology and medical corporations have opened offices in the Raleigh and Research Triangle after being attracted drawn by the outstanding research facilities on offer through the various academic facilities. With excellent road and rail networks and easy access to the deepwater port at Wilmington, Raleigh has also grown impressively as a distribution center.

Raleigh was founded in 1792 and named after Sir Walter Raleigh who planned to establish the first English colony in the New World in the 1580s. The site for Raleigh, later nicknamed “The City of Oaks,” was chosen, in part, for its proximity to Isaac Hunter’s Tavern, a popular venue frequented by State legislators, but also because no known town or city pre-existed on the chosen land. It was also one of the few cities established in the country with the purpose of serving as a state capital. Planners decided to lay the original settlement out in an axial fashion with one central square and four public squares. Andrew Johnson, the nation’s seventeenth President, was born at Casso’s Inn in Raleigh in 1808. In 1831 the State Capitol was destroyed by fire and was eventually replaced in 1840. Between 1914 -1917 an influenza epidemic struck Raleigh and claimed 288 of its citizens. During the Great Depression of the 1930’s all levels of government were focused on creating jobs and hired citizens for public works projects. In 1959 the Research Triangle Park project was opened and Raleigh began to see a population increase, reaching a city total of 100,000 by 1960. Raleigh has continued to keep pace with modernization throughout the recent decades with the result that it is an attractive and sought after place to live and work. With all of these exciting opportunities, it's no wonder why Raleigh moving companies are so busy.

Whether your interests are in theater, sports, art or music Raleigh really has something for everybody. With more than 20 free attractions, this stately and vibrant capital city has three state museums – or if you prefer you could simply wander around the grounds of the State Capitol and observe the legislative process. Ponder the graves of generals from the Civil War or walk carefree along the cobblestone streets of City Market. If its fresh produce you are looking for you will find the best on offer anywhere in the world from the offerings at the State Farmers Market. Maybe you just want peace and tranquility so with over 150 parks, green ways and lakes in Raleigh itself, where you will have ample opportunity to “find yourself.”
