Arlington, Texas
Arlington is known as the entertainment capital of Texas. The city is home to the Dallas Cowboys professional football and the Cowboys Stadium, the Texas Rangers baseball team, the Six Flags Over Texas amusement park, and the Hurricane Harbor Water Park. With all the attractions it offers, there is indeed no shortage of fun in Arlington. It has a population of 365,000 and is located near the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) Metroplex, the economic hub of the region. Business mixed with a lot of pleasure is what people look forward to when moving to Arlington.
Economy:
Arlington’s economic climate is comprised of many major corporations. Among the largest industries in the area are business and financial services, manufacturing, healthcare and tourism. Its proximity to the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, one of the largest airfields and business airports in the world, gives Arlington an economic edge. Major corporations like General Motors and National Semiconductor Wafer Plant call Arlington home. The University of Texas at Arlington is also a valuable asset to the city’s economy.
In 1945, business and civic leaders founded the Arlington Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber seeks innovative ways to build and diversify the local economy, and continues to promote Arlington as a business and corporate destination.
History:
General Edward H. Tarrant’s victory over the Indians of the Village Creek encampment in 1841 opened the Arlington area for settlement. Andrew S. Hayter, a Presbyterian minister, laid out the first town plat when was asked to survey the area by Texas and Pacific, a railway company. The city was first founded as Hayterville in 1876. The city was renamed Arlington in 1877, after General Robert E. Lee's hometown in Virginia.
Because of the area’s rich soil and the irrigation provided by the Trinity River, Arlington was soon developed into a center for farming and cotton ginning. The city was incorporated in 1884. By 1910, the citizens of Arlington were already able to enjoy water, electricity, natural gas and telephone services, along with a public school system. Since then, the city’s population has never ceased to increase and Arlington moving companies have always been busy making sure that every newcomer is settled in properly.
Tourism:
Arlington can offer something for everyone. In 2009, the new $650 million Dallas Cowboys Stadium officially opened. This, along with the fact that the city has been home to the Texas Rangers for 11 seasons now, will surely get sports fans to consider moving to Arlington. For the outdoor enthusiast, Arlington has 82 public parks within the city premises. The largest is River Legacy Parks, covering 1,300 acres on the Trinity River right in the heart of the city. For fans of the arts, Arlington has a wide range of cultural amenities, and it is within the larger metropolitan Dallas-Ft. Worth area. The city has many fine museums, such as the Arlington Museum of Art, the Fielder House, the Center for Research and Contemporary Art, and University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) Special Collections. The music and theater scene is alive with such organizations as Theater Arlington, the Arlington Community Band, Creative Arts Theater and School Tour, and UTA Concert Series. There are also plenty of shopping destinations and restaurants around Arlington.

• Arlington is the largest city in the world without a fixed bus route system of mass transit.
• The brothers Vinnie Paul Abbott and Darrell “Dimebag Darrell “Abbott, founding members of the metal group Pantera, are the two most notable musicians from Arlington.
• In February 2011, Arlington will host Super Bowl XLV.
