History:
Portland was believed to be discovered by Lewis and Clark in 1806 whose name was later decided after a coin toss in1851. The city eventually became the second largest city in the Northwest as well as a major transportation center where lumber was exported. The population of Portland grew as shops, restaurants and downtown Portland grew. Portland rapidly grew after the Civil War where docks for shipping, fish and wheat expanded as well as the railroads and better roads appeared. By the end of the 19th century, Portland's population doubled and continues to expand today.
Economy:
Portland's economy is concentrated within the shipping and the farming industry thank to its location. Computers and electronics are also manufactured in Portland and there are over 1,200 technology companies in the area. Food, agriculture, construction and mining and hospitality are also major industries in Portland.

Portland and it's many excursions are awaiting you as you explore this exciting city. You can spend a day at the Portland Art Museum or the Oregon Zoo, or maybe even get in tune with your adventurous side and explore Portland from a jet boat. Portland also has numerous options for fine dining and shopping as well as exciting music venues. Whatever you are looking for; you will find it in Portland.
