Ohio, Toledo

When moving to Toledo, Ohio you can anticipate a warm welcome from the City that proudly boasts of being the primary market City for the northwest Ohio region, an area containing nine counties with a collective population of over one million people. Toledo has a high number of retail outlets and medical facilities.

Economy:
Through a long history of involvement with glass, Toledo is also known by the nickname of the Glass City. From window glass, to windshields, to glass in construction materials, even bottles and do not forget glass art – Toledo has them all in abundance. Many Fortune 500 automotive-industry related companies have based their headquarters in Toledo. Champion Spark Plug, Dana Corporation and, of course, Jeep with two plants, one in the city and the other in suburban Perrysburg are but a cross-section of famous names based in the city area.

History:
The name Toledo has several possible derivations but a likely one seems to come from connections to the Spanish city with the same name. 1794 was the year that settlement by Americans was first recorded in Toledo, but many of the early settlers fled the area during the 1812 war. With the purpose of linking Cincinnati with Lake Erie as no highways existed at the time, the Ohio state legislature authorized the construction of the Miami and Erie Canal in 1825, and in 1833 this was added to with the Wabash and Erie Canal extension. The state placed two side cuts in the canal before the terminus, one at Swan Creek in Toledo and the other at Maumee. In its first two decades of it's existence Toledo grew very slowly. Moving to Toledo was a slow business, and early settlers moved on equally quickly!

Tourism:
Toledo is a great destination, be it for a weekend break, a day trip or a longer stop over. There is plenty of outdoor activity on offer with lakes, rivers and bays, and lots of historical touring on offer too, with a viewing of the Toledo Museum of Art a must. You will find plenty of sport to enjoy – try the Toledo Mud Hens for example. Oh, and do not forget the zoo! If you are undecided in terms of what to do, then check out some of the action on offer at http://www.dotoledo.org. You can also drop in on the Greater Toledo Convention & Visitors Bureau to find a moving company, which boasts an events calendar of anything that is worthwhile seeing in this fine City, be it restaurants that you are looking for, or appropriate lodgings as well.
