Situated at the center of the Pacific Ocean, Hawaii is the only U.S. state that is a collection of islands. This relevantly new addition to the U.S. was instituted as the 50th state in 1959. As a U.S., Hawaii quickly became modernized as new construction projects and the tourism industry took off.

Hawaii is also referred to as the Aloha state, which is composed of a series of eight islands spread over 1,500 miles. The islands – Maui, Oahu, Kauai, Molokai, Kahoolawe, Lanai, Big Island of Hawaii, and Niihau, a privately owned island whose access is very limited. These islands were formed from thousands of years ago when hot spots erupted. This volcanic activity still occurs today.

Population: There are 1.2 million residents that reside in Hawaii.

Local Activities: The beaches are an obvious activity you can enjoy when moving to Hawaii. The mile-long beaches are ideal for surfing and snorkeling, as well as kayaking and jet skiing. There are also numerous eco tours where you can go on hikes, horseback ride and enjoy the gorgeous landscape.

Capital City: The capital of Hawaii is Honolulu, which is located on the island of Oahu.

Economy: Hawaii's economy is driven by the production of sugarcane, pineapple, sugarcane, tourism, military and education. The state imports coffee, macadamia nuts and livestock.

State Song: King David Kalakaua wrote Hawaii's state song. It is called "Hawaii's Own."

State Bird: The Hawaiian goose is the state bird.

State Flowers: The hibiscus is the state flower of Hawaii.
