History:
Tallahassee was once the home of Native Americans that lived in the area for 12,000 years that was then known as "Anhaica." In 1539, the Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto with additional explorers settling in the area. In 1822, Florida became a U.S. territory where the city of Tallahassee was created as the capital in 1824. During the civil war, battles were fought in Tallahassee and later on major universities such as Florida State University and Florida State College were established. Today, Tallahassee is a diverse area with exciting festivals, museums, restaurants and attractions.
