Pompano Beach, Florida

The city of Pompano Beach, Florida is conveniently nestled between Boca Raton and Fort Lauderdale. This gorgeous resort city provides its residents with numerous recreational amenities such as access to ocean beaches, fishing, golf and horse racing at the world famous Pompano Harness Track. With a population of 102,745, Pompano Beach has something for everyone seeking a beach environment and gorgeous weather. During high season - September through March - the population increases to nearly 150,000 as part-time residents from more inclement environments begin moving to Pompano Beach for some "fun in the sun."

Economy:
Although in many ways a quiet seaside community, Pompano Beach is at the center of Florida’s Gold Coast business and recreational activities. Pompano Beach has all the benefits of a major city within a quiet and relaxed metropolitan community. Due to its tremendous transportation links, Pompano Beach is home to over 28 million square feet of industrial warehouse space; which includes regional headquarters for companies such as Aetna, Aquathin, Associated Grocers, FedEx Ground and Stimpson Co. The city provides access to both the Florida Turnpike and Interstate 95 and also provides access to both the CSX and FEC railroads. Planned redevelopment is occurring in the city’s two Community Redevelopment Areas. A labor force of 2.5 million people exists in this tri-county South Florida region. It’s no wonder why so many Pompano Beach moving companies are so busy bustling new residents to the area.

History:
In 1900, the first general store was opened. Soon a small commercial district paralleled the railroad tracks and the Pompano Board of Trade was established. Pompano Beach became an incorporated town in 1908 so that it could then pass ordinances and laws regulating sanitation, public safety and unsavory practices such as gambling, public intoxication and panhandling. Following Pompano’s incorporation, John R. Mizell was elected the first mayor.

Tourism:
Neatly tucked in South Florida, the Pompano Beach Amphitheatre, wears its 'great host' tag with a lot of ease. From the Gypsy Kings to the Beach Boys, diverse groups of musical acts and thespians have performed at this open-air venue. Every South Florida concert hopper will vouch for the convenient standing room area, atop the seating area, especially during frenzied sell-out concerts. Community Park is the largest city park in Pompano Beach. The park is home to volleyball and basketball courts, municipal swimming pools and the Pompano Tennis Center. The Pompano Beach Fishing Rodeo, the largest saltwater sport fishing tournament in South Florida, is a popular annual event that draws in thousands of tourists and residents.
