Moving to Florida
How exciting, you're moving to Florida! After you have sorted through your belongings and located professional Florida moving companies, it's time to learn more about this exciting and lively state that will soon be your home.

Often dubbed "The Sunshine State," Florida was discovered by the Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon who was seeking the "Fountain of Youth." Originally called "feast of flowers," due to its discovery around Easter time, Florida was claimed under Spain rule and later under England, until it was finally sold to the U.S. in 1819. There were numerous wars in the early part of the 19th century, which finally ceased in 1842.

This southeastern state is now home to a rich population (fourth largest is the U.S) that has four large urban areas and several small towns. Florida has also been ranked by numerous publications as "the Healthiest State to Live" and the "Most Livable State" that is considered a premier destination for its warm and subtropical climate. Many people are moving to the area - making it an excellent location for families and seniors or those who simply love warm weather.

Population: The states population is approximately 18,537,969 in 2009 and growing. The state is renowned as an idea location for retirees due to its relatively low cost of living and gorgeous subtropical climate.

Local Activities: There is so much to see and do when you relocate to Florida. The area is home to numerous theme parks and attractions that make a great destination for the whole family. There is the NASA Kennedy Space Center, Epcot Center and Walt Disney World in Orlando, Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay and of course the gorgeous beaches. Florida is also home to 31 forests and 159 state parks such as Everglades National Park.

Economy: The main industries in Florida include real estate, food processing, tourism, manufacturing and industry such as mining. Agriculture is also a huge industry in Florida where cattle is raised and oranges, strawberries, tomatoes, celery, grapefruit, lemons, limes peanuts and sugar cane are produced. Fishing is also big that was a $6 billion-dollar industry in 2009.

State Bird: Florida's state bird is the mocking bird, which is also the state bird for Arkansas and Tennessee.

State Flower: The state flower is the orange blossom.

State Song: "Swanee River" is the official state song of Florida. It was written by Stephen Foster.

State Reptile: The American alligator is Florida's state reptile.
