Hartford, Connecticut

We think the greatest part about being in Hartford, Connecticut is having the ability to get away from it all and end up in so many great places in proximity. Lots of people compare Hartford, Connecticut to Boston, Massachusetts or New York City, and it ends up in on the wayside, but we think it’s advantageous to just be able to drive to these more popular cities or Cape Cod or even Rhode Island for weekend getaways. Not that you’ll want to get away every weekend since Hartford is full of historic neighborhoods, landmarks, galleries, museums, theatres and places to wine & dine. Picture yourself having a conversation over a great cup of coffee in a café over looking beautiful cobblestone roads, old brick buildings and landmarks that stand the test of time. Hartford is also a very appealing Connecticut city because of the stable economy and the constant job growth. We’re ready to call one of the many Hartford, Connecticut moving companies to trade in our busy lives for a more relaxed life style. The plan is to go to the beaches of Connecticut when we can, explore historic neighborhoods and benefit from the major construction of apartment buildings in the Hartford area.

There is so much to see in Hartford—most of it is made up of important industrial places and historical places of important families. One day you could visit the Bulkeley Bridge that spans the Connecticut River, connecting Hartford with East Hartford, is the longest stone-arch bridge in the world. Then you can see the Aetna Headquarters which is the largest colonial revival building in addition to being a facility that really benefits the city economically. Also located in city limits of the Cathedral of St. Joseph, which is a 281-foot Roman Catholic structure that was built in 1961 and rebuilt when it was lost to a fire. Other fun sites to visit are the Connecticut Executive Residence that is a Georgian revival mansion, the Connecticut Opera House and the many universities in the area. Hartford is a great place to find ancient buildings yet new cultural organizations and art houses.

History:
Hartford, Connecticut was founded as a Dutch trading post on an inlet of the Connecticut Rive in 1623. The first people recorded moving into Hartford were the English settlers led by Thomas Hooker from Massachusetts. They lived in co-existence with the original Algonquin tribes here. From then on, molasses, spices, coffee and rum were sent out from here to other districts and to places further away like England, the West Indies and the Far East. The insurance industry got its start earlier than most of us think… in 1810, actually, when trade and problems that came along with trade grew. Shippers and merchants had to worry about pirates, fires, storms and other natural disasters while delivering goods. The first of its kind was the Hartford Fire Insurance Group in 1810.
