Littleton, Colorado

Littleton, Colorado is a fascinating place to live. Nestled in the foothills of New Hampshire’s White Mountains, Littleton is a picturesque gem in the New England area, and has something to offer everyone. With spectacular views and real friendly folk, Littleton prides itself as being the gateway to the amazing riches of the White Mountain region of New Hampshire. You too may consider moving to Littleton once you have visited and sampled what this amazing city has to offer.

Economy:
Littleton, like everywhere else in the country has experienced one of the longest and deepest economic contractions ever. The area’s economy fared better than many other regions though, and is showing indications that recovery is in swing again, thanks to astute fiscal policies and stringent rebalancing of budgets. Littleton forms part of the South Metro Denver economic area which features a strong base of small to medium size businesses (fewer than 250 employees) but several Fortune 500 companies too. The exceptional quality of life in Littleton combined with a healthy business climate has produced a strong business hub. The area’s main contributors to the economy are from the services industry including medical providers, but a strong manufacturing base too in the form of food products, printing and publishing, machinery and electrical instruments. Tourism plays a vital role throughout Colorado and contributes seven billion a year to the state while also providing employment for more than 200,000 locals.

History:
The beginnings of Littleton trace back to the “Pikes Peak” gold rush of 1859. Along with excited prospectors came merchants, farmers and many other entrepreneurs all seeking fame and fortune. With the expansion of the Metropolis of Denver City, the need to construct water canals became an urgent requirement, and among the engineers brought in to build this system was one Richard Sullivan Little from New Hampshire. Little was so charmed with the site that was to become present-day Littleton that he filed a home stake and other land claims, and brought his wife from the east regions to join him in 1862. The Rough and Ready Flour Mill began operating by 1867, thanks to Little and other progressive-minded townsfolk keen on developing a sound economic base. Schools, churches, hotels and other trappings of civilization soon followed. Agriculture remained the staple industry of Littleton until after World War ll. Then came electronics and pneumatics, munitions and eventually the aerospace industry itself, and so manufacturing took over from farming as the area’s main economic activity. The rest, as they say, is History!

Tourism:
The Littleton Historical Museum is located on a 14-acre site next to Ketring Lake, and is a worthwhile visit. It is also a fascinating living-history farm, that recreates life and hardships taken for granted on a 1860s farm and homestead, and it is like going back in a time capsule. The Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield near Littleton will make for a very pleasant interlude in your hectic schedule. For the more adventure-minded you can take a ride in a hot air balloon and wonder over the magnificent Colorado Rockies as they slip silently beneath your feet! The tours start from Lakewood just to the north-west of Littleton. It goes without saying that much of your time in Littleton should be set aside for the fantastic National Park facilities located very close to Littleton. Yes, it can get cold, so dress up real warm and get your ski shoes out.
