History:
In 1927, in an effort to capitalize on the proximity and glamour of Hollywood, the small area of Lankershim was renamed "North Hollywood.” The outcome was enormous—the development of housing that transformed the area bringing banks, post offices and small businesses to the area. This included the entertainment industry that has been a big part of the Hollywood culture.
Carl Laemmle’s Universal Film Manufacturing Company was the first of its kind in the area. During the time when westerns were the archetype film genre, Southern California’s mild climate and scenery were just perfect for filming. Later on, other businesses came to NoHo and sparked the explosion of residential and commercial spaces. Soon television was the industry to be in, as well as the music business.

According to figures from the Valley Economic Alliance, more than 840,000 people are employed in the San Fernando Valley.
