Los Angeles, California

The “City of Angels” or Los Angeles is considered the center of glamour and relaxation as people move to the area for a mix of a slower pace of life within a major metropolis. The city is the second largest city in the United States (first is New York) and the largest in the state of California with a population of 3.83 million. Those interested in moving to Los Angeles will quickly enjoy the local beaches, cultural attractions and numerous Hollywood attractions.

History:
The area was first under control in 1846 when the Mexican settlement was taken over. Previously, the land was under Native American control for many thousands of years. The city was soon after incorporated in 1850. The Southern Pacific railroad arrived in 1876 and connected Los Angeles with the rest of the country. Oil was discovered in the city in 1892 which resulted in explosive growth in future years. Additionally, in 1913, an aqueduct was developed supplying Los Angeles with clean water and the ability to grow further. In the 1920's, the motion picture industry in Los Angeles grew tremendously, and helped make it the world leader it is today. World War II was a boom time for the city as it was a hub for needed war supplies.

Economy:
Los Angeles is the largest manufacturing center for the western part of the United States and one of the busiest ports in the world for trade. It is a leader in entertainment, aerospace, petroleum, shipping, finance, fashion, industry, distribution, and communication. Los Angeles is home to six Fortune 500 companies including Health Net and Occidental Petroleum. Other companies in Los Angeles include: The Academy of Motion Pictures, Guess?, 20th Century Fox, Paramount Pictures, The Jim Henson Company and Pacific Exchange. With all of these exciting opportunities, it’s no wonder Los Angeles moving companies are so busy.

Tourism:
Los Angeles is renowned for their booming tourist attractions. You can enjoy a day at the beach or partake in numerous recreational activities such as a visit to the Hollywood Walk of Fame or the Our Lady of Angels Cathedral – (a big draw due to its architecture and religious importance). The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Kodak Theatre and the Walt Disney Concert Hall, as well as the Los Angeles Opera and the Centre Theatre Group are major attractions in the area. The Los Angeles Music Center and the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Getty Center are additional points of interests in Los Angeles.
